Recently, I went to the island that people of Malaysia & all over the world love to go. The island is Langkawi. Before the trip, I make many research from the internet to find out what the island look like and all about it but the result is, I can't find any. I want my visit going smoothly and has no problem. At that time, I think, why don't you doing something to help other people to get the information about the island easily? And make they trip enjoyable and full of excitement. So, that's why I created this blog, to help all of you (I hope so). Please let me know if there is a fact mistake or what so ever. Because I'm just human (sure you are not alien...hahaha). And I feel sorry if my English is bad. Please give any comment or suggestion to me. I'll try to improve this blog from time to time. All the best.....Thanks a lot to all of you....!!!

How Langkawi Get The Name?

Eagle monument in Eagle Square which commemorates the origin of Langkawi's name.

The name Langkawi is a combination of Lang and Kawi. Which is, Lang comes from the Malay word helang which means eagles. For your information, in the past, the land was a home to innumerable eagles (Which eagles species not identified). The word of Kawi is from Sanskrit word for marble, which is found in excess in this island. Both words are joined together to form the word Helangkawi. Finally, the name was toned down and ultimately became Langkawi. But, when the name was formed is unknown. If you can get the information else where....please let me know....hehehe.

However, another resource and reference found in the book by Tun Mohamed Zahir titled The Legends of Langkawi which says that the name is a combination of two sanskrit words. Langka means beauty and Wi means innumerable.

That's all about Langkawi's name...if i get new fact or information...don't worry!!! I will put it here...all the best.
